Palawan

Palawan is an island province of the Philippines located in the MIMAROPA region. Its capital is Puerto Princesa City, and it is the largest province in the country in terms of total area of jurisdiction. The islands of Palawan stretch from Mindoro in the northeast to Borneo in the southwest. It lies between the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea. The province is named after its largest island, Palawan Island, measuring 450 kilometers (280 mi) long, and 50 kilometers (31 mi) wide.

Palawan is composed of the long and narrow Palawan Island, plus a number of other smaller islands surrounding the main island. The Calamianes Group of Islands, to the northwest consists of Busuanga Island, Culion Island, and Coron Island. Durangan Island almost touches the westernmost part of Palawan Island, while Balabac Island is located off the southern tip, separated from Borneo by the Balabac Strait. In addition, Palawan covers the Cuyo Islands in the Sulu Sea. The disputed Spratly Islands, located a few hundred kilometers to the west is considered part of Palawan by the Philippines, and is locally called the Kalayaan Group of Islands.

Palawan's almost 2,000 kilometers (1,200 mi) of irregular coastline are dotted with roughly 1,780 islands and islets, rocky coves, and sugar-white sandy beaches. It also harbors a vast stretch of virgin forests that carpet its chain of mountain ranges. The mountain heights average 3,500 feet (1,100 m) in altitude, with the highest peak rising to 6,843 feet (2,086 m)[4] at Mount Mantalingahan. The vast mountain areas are the source of valuable timber. The terrain is a mix of coastal plain, craggy foothills, valley deltas, and heavy forest interspersed with riverine arteries that serve as irrigation.

Overview Forecast of Ox in 2010

I'm curios to know what's in store for me this 2010 so I searched at Proastro.com the Overview forecast of Ox in 2010 Metal Tiger Year.

My sign is Ox.

You could have a measure of good luck this year as the Tiger seems to bring some to everyone, and Metal is the Ox's most favorable element. On the other hand you might as well be prepared to face some challenges. Tiger style is not conducive to your peace of mind. This is not the time to march forth boldly into battle heedless of the consequences. You will have to pick your fights and show much restraint if you want to be successful overall. You are only likely to have two great months this year; make sure to take advantage of the opportunities they provide. The rest of the time you need to tone down your efforts and press ahead carefully with ongoing projects.

Overview Forecast of 2010 Metal Tiger Year in General

Hot passion meets cold steel with the arrival of the year of the Metal Tiger. This combined sign signifies both the energy to begin activity and the determination to follow it through to the end. Forget about last year's slow plodding. Events set in motion now will pick up speed and continue until either the objective is attained or the whole endeavor crashes and burns.

Bold, cold Metal rules in contrast to last year's pragmatic, calculating Earth. This difference will be all the more dramatic as 2010 is a dynamic, Yang year. Metal's Yang aspect is extremely aggressive and does not tolerate opposition.

Unfortunately Metal has a destructive relationship with the Tiger's fixed element, Wood. In fact this is the fifth in a run of six years governed by an unlucky conflict of elements. This should come as no surprise given the recent history of US and world financial markets, massive numbers of foreclosures in the housing sector, and the terrible tragedy that is Iraq today.

The combination of Metal and Tiger is not, however, a totally negative one. Together they represent the kind of force necessary to accomplish the most difficult tasks. The impossible just might be possible during this exciting time.

Things that have needed to get done but were not due to some blockage will be done or at least see significant progress being made. On the other hand, some that probably should never even have been attempted will also go to completion. This is because the Metal Tiger is associated with a lemming mentality. The Norwegian story goes that, once a group of them starts moving across the fields, they will charge ahead and unthinkingly run straight off a cliff to their doom.

The point is now is the time to attack the most difficult issues you face. You have one of your best chances of achieving a breakthrough. On the other hand, if you still run into stiff opposition, you would do well to consider postponing your attempt to another time. You see, the same force that propels you forward is also with those opposing your efforts. Thinkers can prosper, but lemmings could experience serious setbacks.

Since this is a Metal year, those people born in an Earth one will generally fare better than others of their animal sign, while those born in a Wood one are likely to do worse. It's also slightly negative for those born in a Fire year and mildly positive for Water sign people. Finally, those born in a Metal year will be in their element and do well if their animal sign is compatible with the Tiger but could run into lots of confrontations if not.

The only thing we can say for sure is the year 2010 will be a tumultuous one. This is true for individuals, societies and the human race in general. It's perhaps a better time for knocking down walls than building them. People who thirst for adventure and can reign in their emotions could experience a thrilling and rewarding year. Those who seek peace and harmony might find themselves running for cover more than a few times.

6.0 magnitude quake schakes parts of Bicol

A moderate to strong earthquake occurred east of Catanduanes early Thursday morning, shaking parts of the Bicol Region, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor occurred at 2:49 a.m. with a magnitude of 6.0 and epicenter estimated at 156 kilometers east of Virac, Cataduanes with a depth of 31 kilometers, Phivolcs said.

The agency said the origin of the quake was tectonic.

The tremor was felt as Intensity 3 in Virac, Catanduanes and Naga City; Intensity 2 in Legaspi City; Cabid-an, Sorsogon; and Guinayangan, Quezon.

No damage was reported and Phivolcs wasn’t expecting aftershocks.

The area, which is part of the Philippine Trench, also experienced two mild earthquakes a week ago.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said a magnitude 5.5 quake occurred 140 east southeast of Pandan, Catanduanes at 10:02 a.m. January 21. It had a depth of 35 kilometers.

At 11:01 p.m. of the same day, another quake occurred in the area. The quake was measured at magnitude 4.7 with the epicenter estimated at 180 northeast of Calbayog, Samar. It had a depth of 56.7 kilometers.

The Philippines lies in a region known as the Pacific Ring of Fire that is seismically and volcanically active.

Boracay Mansion

Controversy has hounded the “Boracay” property for years. In March 2001, the National Bureau of Investigation established that the property in New Manila, Quezon City—which derived its name from its fine white sand that was supposedly flown in from the world-famous resort island—had been bought using funds from the so-called Jose Velarde account.
Jose Velarde is alleged to be an alias used by deposed President Joseph Estrada to amass ill-gotten wealth.
Valued at P142.9 million, the property at No. 100, 11th Street in New Manila, once boasted of a mansion and a wave pool—a kind of swimming pool equipped with a machine that produces artificial waves.

Ownership question
The property was found to be registered under St. Peter’s Holdings Corp., which bought it on Oct. 1, 1999.
The company was owned by businessman Jose Yulo, who claimed that the real owner was Estrada’s friend Jaime Dichaves. Estrada himself insisted it was Dichaves’ property and that he only borrowed it for a time.
The Quezon City government set up an auction for the property in September 2005 after its owners failed to pay an accumulated amount of P1.7 million in real property taxes.

First auction
Before the 2005 auction, St. Peter’s Holdings was served notice of possible forfeiture. However, the Quezon City government found there was no longer a company by that name at the address given, 15th floor, Strata 100 building, in Ortigas.
With the disappearance of the owners, the auction pushed through. There were no bidders and this resulted in the property’s forfeiture to the city government.
The lack of bidders even at that time was no surprise.
Only a hole in the ground
Quezon City treasurer Victor Endriga told reporters the entire roof of the residence had been looted. The looters also pulled out the steel railing of the fence.
The property’s white sand had been replaced by rubble. The pool became nothing more than a hole in the ground.
In November 2007, the Land Registration Authority ordered the Quezon City government to relinquish its title to the property. This was to allow the Sandiganbayan to auction off the “Boracay Mansion” in favor of the national government.
On Dec. 4, 2009, the Sandiganbayan announced the auction for Jan. 26.
On Tuesday, as in 2005, no bidders came forward. Compiled by Eliza Victoria, Inquirer Research

This Is It!

This is worth sharing.......
The Michael Jackson documentary "This Is It" only showed the King of Pop dancing to "They Don’t Care About Us" with a computer-generated army for his backdrop. But with the help of the famous inmates in Cebu, that army comes to life. Some 1,500 inmates from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center performed the number with Travis Payne, Jackson’s long-time choreographer.

This Is It was created from more than 100 hours of behind-the-scenes footage shot between March and June this year while Michael Jackson rehearsed for his 50 sold-out concerts in London. He died on June 25 before he could perform in these concerts, which were slated for kick-off on July 8.The number was called "The Drill," the last choreography Payne and Jackson collaborated on before the King of Pop died in June 2009.

The performance was uploaded on the video-sharing site YouTube last January 22. Accessed on the morning of January 26, the video clip had already been viewed 417,610 times. The number also showed the inmates forming a huge peace sign, possibly in remembrance of Jackson, who advocated world peace. Dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid also joined the inmates, who wore black "This Is It" shirts. Payne visited the Cebu penitentiary last week to teach the inmates "The Drill," which will be part of the Blu-Ray and DVD copies of "This Is It." Following the visit, a newspaper report quoted Payne as saying that “it is a wonderful partnership in just spreading love and peace. I think that with Jackson at the center of everything. It is really a blessing to be here."

The Cebu inmates gained fame in 2007 after their performance of Jackson’s “Thriller" landed on cyberspace. When Jackson died, the inmates staged another tribute to the King of Pop, where they danced to a Michael Jackson medley.

The Santo Niño was considered to be the patron saint of Cebu. However, the Santo Niño is a representation of Jesus Christ as a child. The Catholic Church in the Philippines sets the Holy Child as an example of humility, and as a celebration of the Incarnation. Many Cebuanos do not consider the Christmas season over until the Feast of the Santo Niño.

In 2002, the Archbishop of Cebu, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, declared Jesus' mother Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe as the official patron saint of Cebu. This upset some of the Santo Niño followers, who felt that the declaration demoted the Holy Child. However, the declaration is consistent with Catholic thought requiring a patron saint be a human saint who has gone to his or her heavenly reward and who prays to God on behalf of the living, rather than a divine being himself.

Since the Holy Child is a representation of Jesus, the Second Person of the Trinity, he cannot, as God, be considered a patron. In that sense, Cardinal Vidal's move was to actually install a patron saint for Cebu, when before there was none. He did not, however, abolish the feast or the traditional mardigras parade.

Beware of PAL- Centennial Airport in Manila!

My mom arrived here in Manila last Dec 1 boarding PAL PR103 flight. Upon arrival she put her luggage in a cart not noticing something peculiar in her things. I was waiting for her outside, then when I saw her approaching the waiting area I asked our service to wait for us at the arrival area of Centennial Airport, the airport employee even helped us put her luggage inside the car. Upon reaching the house, she found out that the lock and zipper of her luggage was damaged. Unfortunately she cannot complaint anymore because she saw it after leaving the airport.

Last Monday my sister ended her 2 week vacation here and boarded PAL PR116 going to Vancouver Canada. When she arrived at Vancouver her luggage were missing and cannot be traced by the airport employees. After more than 5 hours of searching she was told to take her flight going to Calgary and if she still cannot find her luggage there she can declared it as lost, I even coached her to declare $5k as the cost of her things (including the hassle of course!).
Fortunately she found her luggage in Calgary. But! The lock of her luggage was also destroyed! Because of her tiredness in searching for her luggage for hours she only noticed it when she was already at her apartment.

Next week, my mom will be returning to US via Philippine Airlines again. Precautionary measures? She won’t use a lock that has a combination but instead a padlock or a simple wire will do.
